We deal with theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of ecological complexity and we analyse several indicators suitable for quantification of its functional, vertical dimension. This important pillar of ecosystem´s and landscape´s complexity can be effectively indicated by means of quantification of variables connected with solar energy dissipation and with change of temperature of the ecosystem surface.
