The quality of the resulting timber was evaluated in terms of dimensional accuracy of timber, namely the cutting layer thickness, throughout the period of durability of the cutting edge. The paper describes a laboratory ongoing experiment in the in development workshops and laboratories TU in Zvolen on the horizontal log band saw MEBOR HTŽ 1000. In the experiment were used identical band saw blades from Pilana Tools with a different method of extending the cutting edge. Tolerance of the cutting layer thickness was assessed at 25 mm thick medial timber made of beech prisms with cutting height of 300 mm. The actual measurement of dimensional accuracy lumber took place in accordance with the rules set out in the standard STN 49 1010 (1991). The values of the cutting layer thickness tolerance were supplemented by the parameters of cutting edge blade wear - the radius of curvature of the cutting edge and the length of the cutting edge. The results obtained have shown that cutting layer thickness tolerance is in the range from 0.23 to 1.65 mm depending on the method of extending the cutting edge and the wear of the cutting edge. Saw belt with cutting edge extended by upsetting shows higher values of the cutting layer thickness tolerance compared to the saw belt with stellite extended cutting edge. The growth trend in the cutting layer thickness tolerance is identical when using both types of saw belts.
