The aim of the article is to present a summary of scientific knowledge in the field of change management and partial results of research in enterprises in the wood processing industry. The research was focused on specific areas and types of implemented changes in enterprises in the wood processing industry (WPI), at the levels of process optimization, as well as on the reasons or impulses that led enterprises to implement change. These aspects of change management were examined in relation to the level of performance presented by the return on equity ROE and their impact was evaluated using statistical methods such as contingency tables, Chi-square test and Cramer's contingency coefficient. The results showed that WPI enterprises, which implemented several types of changes and especially a complex transformational change, which included a change in the system and management methods, achieved higher levels of performance. The impulse to implement changes in these enterprises was based on changes in customer requirements and increased pressure from competitors.
