The paper is conceived as an inspiration – it does not have ambition to draw a synthesis because the journey to it is still too long and difficult. Nevertheless, the knowledge about popular reading books we have, allows us to assume a two-way comparative orientation. We expect the comparative research of popular reading books and representative writings can bring interesting results (to broaden knowledge about literary development) in all four categories of comparative studies – genre, style, theme, idea.
