Regarding this viewpoint and our choice of discourse analysis as a key methodological tool, in this paper we are mainly concerned with idioms, their meaning and pragmatic function in the economic texts or, more precisely, discourse. Our central focus is the impact they (may) have on the receiver´s/reader´s opinion and hence the whole society. We have conducted this research as part of our dissertation thesis, using the analytical articles published in The Economist and Financial Times as research material.
