Slovensko Form. Descr. články - journal articles Language Slovak Country Slovak Republic Annotation The advent of internet is still reshaping the market structure of the economy in many ways. Tourism and air transport sectors are amongst the most affected ones. Traditionally, long-haul holiday takers were used to buy bundled services comprised of charter flight, accommodation, catering, excursions and or local transport. Economies of scale from the provider side and lack of information and safety seeking from the consumer side were the main reasons for this success. Tourists were conformed to paying for services targeting a broad market niche. The study of Airbnb services is a relatively new and in the same time, given the social and economic consequences, also a very current topic. In Slovakia, not much attention is paid to this issue yet, but in the world, especially in the countries with destinations suffering from mass tourism (Spain, Italy, Croatia and so on), it is developed in detail and systematically. In our research, we found that the Airbnb services offered in Slovakia show certain specifics, which are mainly related to the status of the country, the potential for the development of recreational activities and socio-economic and historical factors. As part of the analysis of the deployment of the Airbnb services in Slovakia we revealed the following foer spatial patterns: the capital city of Bratislava the expected largest number of shared accommodation beds (i); cities do not provide a higher supply of beds than rural municipalities (ii); regions with international significance and high potential for tourism development only partially dominate in terms of the offer of Airbnb services (this applies, however, for example, in the case of the Bra-tislava, Tatra and Liptov tourism regions (iii); when analyzed by individual cities and villages, the largest number of Airbnb beds is offered by largest cities (Bratislava, Košice, Žilina, Nitra), then regreation centers in the hinterland of the most important mountains (Tatras, Low Tatras), summer recreation centers and spas (Podhájska in region of the Danube, Piešťany), and peripherally situated rural settlements with a high proportion of scattered and dispersed settlements (Detvianske lazy and Krupinske lazy). The current generation of mellennials really lives in the online world, and their lifestyle, conditioned by the use of applications and technologies, is also reflected in their economic behavior in relation to holiday planing and recreational activities. However, accomodation offered through Airbnb in Slovakia does not significantly contribute to the territorial expansion of tourism at the state level and does not contribute to the territorial expansion of tourism at the regional and local level in urban regions and tourist areas with dominant spa, mountain or rural tourism. In comparison with countries as Spain, Italy, Croatia or France, Slovakia lags significantly behind in the share of Airbnb services in accommodation.
