(Agricultural biomass has an irreplaceable role in satisfying human food consumption. Nowadays, another important role is connected with agricultural biomass, and that is its utilisation for energy purposes. Efforts to increase use of agricultural biomass needs evaluation of complete systems which must be conducted to assure that development do move towards sustainability and environmental stability. Material flow analysis is one of the effective tools for carrying out this type of initial evaluation. Analysis of the availability and use of the biomass resources is crucial if biomass energy is to be used on a sustainable basis. Material flow analysis was used for agricultural biomass, its production and potential use for energy purposes in Slovakia for the years 1990 – 2008. The results indicated that the fundamental problem in Slovakia is not availability of agricultural biomass resources for energy use but the sustainable management. ) Public work category AEC No. of Archival Copy 20757 Catal.org. Vol. 39, no. 5 (2011), pp. 2824-2832. - Oxford : Elsevier Ltd., 2011 Keywords materiálové a energetické toky biomasa - biomass úspory energie - energy savings material and energy flow energy savings Language English Country Great Britian systematics 502 Annotation Cieľom článku je kvanitifikácia množstva dostupnej biomasy, ktorá môže byť využitá na energetické účely pomocou účtovníctva materiálových a energetických tokov na Slovensku a v Českej republike. Zároveň pomocou prepočtov bolo zistené aké množstvo fosilných palív by bola schopná táto biomasa nahradiť a tým obmedziť množstvo uvoľnených CO2 emisií. Resumé The aim of this article is to use material and energy flow accounting apporaches to quantify the amount of biomass that is available, but that so far has not been used for energy purposes in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and to calculate how much consumed fossil fuels and corresponding CO2 emissions can be saved by utilising this biomass Public work category ADC No. of Archival Copy 19074 Repercussion category DE OLIVEIRA, Jofran Luiz - DA SILVA, Jadir Nogueira - PEREIRA, Emanuele Graciosa - OLIVEIRA FILHO, Delly - CARVALHO, Daniel Rizzo.
