AnnotationThe economic interests and activities of many companies go beyond national borders and become transnational. Key factors in their success are recognition and respecting new and important circumstances such as political, economic, legislative, religious or cultural specificities in the international business environment. Moving people, ideas, innovations, products and information all around the world requires competent managers who can handle challenging and often unpredictable situations that can estimate the right approach to other markets. The management system and the formation of organizational culture are determined by the approaches of foreign multinational companies to national markets. The enforcement of the parent company's standards and values on national markets is progressively aligned with the basic domestic rules and conditions as it is not possible to introduce uniform procedures and standards in all countries. Recognizing the values of national culture, national administration, economic and cultural background helps managers of multinational companies to respond more responsibly to the problems and misunderstandings that can arise, and more successfully achieve companies’ goals operating in an intercultural environment. The aim of the paper is to present some expert opinions on differentiated approaches of parent companies to the management of foreign affiliates and to confront the theoretical knowledge with the results of research in selected multinational companies in Slovakia.
