Descr. príspevky v zborníku - proceedings papers Language English Country United States of America Annotation The paper brings ideas for inquiry-based activities of pupils at lower secondary education level from the Heat thematic unit. The activities, originally designed for the use in the classroom, have been modified to be usable in distance education as well. Physics teachers were provided with teaching materials and worksheets for pupils, which were created to develop an understanding of heat phenomena as well as to support and enable the development of pupils’ inquiry skills within today’s untraditional learning conditions. Feedback from teachers was obtained through evaluation questionnaires and interviews. Pupils' worksheets were also analyzed. Inquiry-based education as a means of teaching has not been sufficiently studied in the context of empirical cognition in children of lower ages. The currently enhanced space for preschool science education creates possibilities to verify the applicability of physical experiment in the empirical cognition of preschool children and its effect on the development of their creative thinking. The developed Empirical Cognition Development Programme was implemented in kindergarten conditions and empirically verified in a quasi-experimental design on a sample of 102 children (2 experimental groups N = 71; 1 control group N = 31). To capture the level of creative thinking and its changes in children, the Torrance Figural Test of Creative Thinking (Torrance, 1974; Jurčová, 1984) was used. Results of comparative analyses showed a statistically and practically significant increase in the level of the creative thinking factors studied (fluency, flexibility, originality) in one of the experimental groups in comparison with the control group. The introduced experimental activities belong to the topics of Electromagnetic radiation and the particles of microworld (ISCED 3) and Light (ISCED 2) partially and are focused on basic properties of near ultraviolet radiation produced by various UV light sources. Most of the presented experimental activities are suitable for the pupil exploring in the learning process due to their simple implementation and the opportunity to stimulate pupils´ interest in science.
