    AnnotationThis paper aim is to discover the specific field of employee absence - short-term absence. Paper presents results of research of short-term absence in UK and Slovakia. Both researches were focused on the analysis of absence rate and absence duration, the costs of absence and the causes of absence. The paper looks for the answer, if the short-term absence is actual problem of companies. The final chapter of paper presents a variety of actions to decrase the short-term absence rate. Generally, companies believe, the short term absence can be managed and reduced. It is necessary to manage absence by absence strategy, policy or program
