Economy plays an important role in shaping the global security environment – not only in terms of the Copenhagen School of Security Studies, but also in geopolitical discourses. In this article the author seeks to answer the question, whether the dynamic changes of world economy observed in the recent months and the current crisis of the financial market have, from a long-term perspective, the potential to change the global security situation. The article follows the arguments of several approaches to international relations and security. While acknowledging the plurality of opinions in the discussions on security, it outlays one possible scenario of geopolitical development, triggered by the recent changes in global economy. However, the article does not suggest the single possible truth.
