The main character, a bank clerk, who leads a stereeotypical life, is arrested, but during the investigation he is left a large. The trial starts, although he has commited no crime and it ends when he is killed. The author of this paper tries to analyse the plot, which is very symbolic, and the notion of guilt, applaying the elaborations and divisions of the philosopher like Jaspers and May. The fundamental question, not answered trough the whole plot, is: whose guilt it was which Kafka wanted to point at: was it the collective guilt or the guilt of the individual?
