Having successfully adopted the French language as their means of artistic expression, they have resonated in their texts an experience of displacement or exile, of uprooting and that of acculturation. In the current era of individual and group movements in the European common space and beyond, the study of contemporary migrant experiences deserves attention as an integral part of the process of sensitising language learners to the experiences of representatives of the foreign cultures that these languages convey. The paper highlights the artistic and socio-cultural potential of such texts and outlines several avenues for their didactic use in French as a Foreign Language teaching. In this study, we focus on the return of young migrants from abroad. We understand return as one phase in the migration cycle. We show that the experience of living abroad leads to changes in the social behavior of young people, as well as to changes in the structure of their values in a broader sense. We also reveal that return serves as a catalytic process in which young returnees understand their own changes while living abroad in contrast to the situation in their society of origin. Therefore, the first part of the study presents return as a dynamic process of personal and cultural transformation. The second part of the paper focuses on social remittances which are analyzed as sources of innovation in the country of origin. Then, in the third part, we deal with the role of young returning migrants in spreading innovation in families, local communities and in the wider society. Descr. články - journal articles Language English Country Slovak Republic Annotation Introduction: It is well-known that after the most significant enlargement of the EU in 2004, a great number of migrants from the Visegrad countries (V4), including Slovakia, decided to seek new opportunities in the UK. This has been reflected in numerous studies illustrating the consequences for British society and particularly the negative shift of Britons´ attitudes towards migrants. The fatal mixture of political populism, media influence and social issues subsequently led to a referendum with the unexpected outcome of Britain leaving the EU, otherwise known as Brexit. Objectives: The main objective of the research presented in this paper was to examine the social, economic, legal and political consequences of Brexit and its impact on the migrant strategies of the Slovaks living in the UK. Methods: We used qualitative-research methods in the form of 30 in-depth semi-structured interviews online after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the original plan of interviewing the participants face-to-face to be abandoned. The approach used in the interviews was biographical, addressing the migrants´ personal history (in respect to migration), present (in respect to Brexit) and future (in respect to both Brexit and migration). However, the final themes and questions included in the interviews was also affected by the pandemic which had largely replaced Brexit as the main cause of the migrants´ concerns and had to be reflected. Results: A qualitative analysis of the collected data showing that Brexit did not alter the migration strategies of those 30 Slovak research participants, especially those from the post-EU-admission migration wave. They did not intend to go back to Slovakia and did not perceive any immediate negative impact of Brexit on their lives. Moreover, they believe that Britain would easily sustain and deal with any potential trouble resulting from Brexit. However, the focus of this paper is on those who emigrated before 2004 and can see the UK, their own lives and consequences of major political decisions in a broader perspective. Based ona common international platform consisting of three universities (Université de Rennes 2, Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan), we work to integrate social topics such as migration and exile into teaching French as a foreign language. It is processed through literary texts, into the training of future teachers and translators of French, to increase their linguistic and intercultural competence. The basis of work with students is primarily a literary, linguistic, and intercultural analysis of the corpus of selected literary works by French-speaking authors of non-French-speaking origin, who develop the theme of migration and exile in their works. In this paper, we focus on the socio-cultural level of the connection between literature, migration, and identity, from the perspective of the main character Martin in the selected literary work of Andrea Salajova -Eastern.
